It all started when…
I was in 7th Grade, 2002 and was tasked to film, produce, and edit a narrative short film. Equipment was limited at the time but my Dad, Dr. Jeff Bauer, a Professor of Educational Technology at University of Northern Colorado, had all the right tools. While most other groups where shooting on VHS at the time, we opted for Hi-8 Tape. While everyone else was shooting for In-Camera-Editing, I chose to take a stab at iMovie. By the end of the project, I knew this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. In the time since then, I have upgraded to Mini-DV, HDV Tape, HD 1080P, DSLR HD, and presently 4K ProRes. I’ve shot on everything from DVCAM to RED and have developed the expensive hobby of constantly adding new tools to my arsenal… but at the end of the day, it’s all about story. You could be shooting on an iPhone but if the story is good enough, no one will care.
